Alternatives for truly portable Math Games & Educational for our kids, particularly Vera now:
Platform
Pros
Cons
Gameboy
Very portable
Very little effort to get games
Only a game console
PC Laptop
Not as portable
Modest effort to port games to emulators
Laptops are not nearly as good for trips
Sandisk e260
Very portable
Can run GB games as well as music (with RockBox installed)
4GB good size for emulator
Moderate effort to get RockBox installed
Requires two e2x0 devices, one for testing one for Vera
Sandisk e280
Which one for test, which for V?
Same as above
iPod Nano 3G
Also can be a GB emulator
Tools/programs avail to run for L too
4GB good mem size for emulator
Seems most educational software targeted at late elem/early MS age
iPod Nano (1G)
Same as above
Can be test box before doing anything to L's new Nano 3G
Same as above
Less memory, only 1GB
Based on above, looking at installing RockBox on e280 (and an e250 now on order from Foobis.com) and installing a couple of games:
Math Patrol - Kleptoid Threat
Howto:
Install GB games on iPod (similar for e2x0)
